Description
Help your child relax, unwind, and feel calm.
In this gentle and imaginative story, a child with a very chatty hat learns something surprising: the most beautiful moments happen when the chatter fades away.
While the hat talks, the world quietly carries on. A cow stands peacefully in the warm sun, and the breeze whispers through the trees.
Little by little, she discovers the joy of being right here, right now.
With playful rhymes and calming imagery, this heartwarming story invites children to slow down, notice the world around them, and feel more at ease.
Perfect for children aged 4-10, especially those who experience stress, restlessness, or difficulty falling asleep. This book gently supports emotional well-being through simple, engaging practices.
It helps children:
- Relax and unwind while building emotional awareness
- Develop a calmer, more focused mind
- Create soothing, consistent bedtime routines
Inspired by mindfulness research shown to support children with anxiety, stress, sleep difficulties, and attention challenges.
This book is also thoughtfully designed with dyslexia-friendly formatting to make reading more comfortable and accessible for children with reading difficulties.
Includes simple reflection activities and breathing techniques to help children calm busy thoughts.

Chit-Chat the talking hat makes even a “grown-up” think twice. It uses a very clever metaphor to explain a very complex idea that we all deal with every day. I enjoyed reading it to my kids and I think it can really help them deal with their “chatty hats”.

This book beautifully brings the idea of mindfulness to life in a way children can truly experience and understand. The story and wording flow so naturally, making it engaging for children of a variety of ages. What I especially loved is how it also gently reminds parents to slow down, pause, take in their surroundings, and simply be when needed. It creates such a lovely shared reading experience. The activities at the end of the book are also a fantastic addition — fun, thoughtful, and a great way to continue the mindfulness journey together after finishing the story.

This was a great book for kids to make them understand about their thoughts and feelings. The way Vinet compared thoughts and feelings with a hat and how it feels when we stop thinking about them had my kids enjoy and understand a great lesson. A special mention to the awesome pictures.

What a wonderful little story! It’s a great way to explain such a complex concept to children while offering meaningful lessons for adults. I enjoyed reading it and discussing it with my 7 year old.

I bought this for my 4-year-old niece and 7-year-old nephew.
The story is simple enough for my niece to follow and enjoy, and engaging enough that my nephew didn’t find it boring, especially the activities.
It’s rare to find a book that’s truly age-versatile like this. The author did a fantastic job making it age-appropriate without talking down to younger kids or boring older ones.

What an amazing experience reading this book to my 3 year old. While he enjoyed the story and pictures, I enjoyed the words. As an adult, the message really hit home for me I can only imagine how good it will be for early development. Highly recommend!

What I loved about this book is that it’s not only a story, but an experience! Many children (and adults) struggle with anxiety and emotional regulation on a daily basis, and practical advice on mitigating the effects is so powerful. We loved the book, we loved the workshop and we definitely look forward to the next one!

We enjoyed this book on so many levels. The story is simple, but gripping and tender. The activities in the second part open up many ways in which to talk about the thoughts we have. The good and bad thoughts, helpful and unhelpful thoughts, fleeting, looping and persistent thoughts, the enabling and debilitating thoughts. While several children’s books have recently appeared on emotions and how to deal with them, this is the first one I see on thoughts, and the chattering mind, which is equally, if not more, difficult to fathom and control for kids than emotions. The valuable message is that we wear our chattering hat (thoughts), but it is not us. Thank you for this book! Needed by parents as much as by their kids. I am going to get copies for my friends!
